instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.

Downhill skiing racecourses are often marked by swaths of blue paint
sprayed across the white, snowy surface. The crude arcs might be a visual
distraction for specta- tors but prove to be vital to both the success and
safety of the competitors. The paint serves as a guide for the racers to
visualize the fastest line to the bottom of the hill. Additionally, the contrast
of the paint against the snow offers racers depth perception, which is critical
to their safety when traveling at such high rates of speed.
Solomon begs his
sons to seek wis- dom in hopes of keeping them safe on the racecourse of life.
Like the blue lines, wisdom, he says, will “lead [them] along straight paths”
and keep them from stumbling (PROVERBS 4:11–12). His deepest hope as a father is
for his sons to enjoy a rich life, free from the damag- ing effects of living
apart from the wisdom of God.
God, as our loving Father, offers us
“blue-line” guidance in the Bible. While He’s given us the freedom to “ski”
wherever we like, the wisdom He offers in the Scriptures, like racecourse
markers, are “life to those who find them” (V. 22). When we turn from evil and
walk instead with Him, our path will be lit with His righteousness, keeping our
feet from stumbling and guid- ing us onward each day (VV. 12, 18). KIRSTEN

페인트를 뿌려 표시한 줄이 있습니다. 대충 그어놓은 그 활모양의 곡선은 관중들에게는 시각적 혼란을 줄 수 있겠지만, 선수들에게는 이기는 일과
안전에 반드시 필요한 것입니다. 이 페인트 줄은 선수들에게 언덕 아래까지 가장 빨리 갈 수 있는 길을 보여주는 안내자 역할을 합니다. 게다가
페인트 색깔과 눈 색깔이 대비되어 선수들이 아주 빠른 속도로 달릴 때 안전에 더 없이 중요한 거리감각을 갖게 해줍니다.
솔로몬은 아들들이
인생 경주로에서 안전하기를 바라면서 그들에게 지혜를 구할 것을 신신당부하고 있습니다. 솔로몬은 그 파란색 줄과 같이 지혜가 “[그들을] 바른
길로 이끌어주고”넘어지지 않게” 해줄 거라고 말합니다(잠언 4:11-12, 새번역). 솔로몬이 아버지로서 더없이 바란 것은 아들들이 하나님의
지혜를 떠나 살아서 해로운 일이 생기지 않고, 풍요로운 삶을 누리는 것이었습니다.
우리 사랑의 하나님 아버지는 성경 속에서 “파란색 줄”과
같은 인생의 안내를 제시해주고 있습니다. 하나님은 우리가 가고 싶은 어디서나 “스키를 탈 수 있는” 자유를 주시기도 하셨지만, 하나님이 성경에서
보여주시는 지혜는 경주로에 있는 표시처럼 “그것을 얻는 자에게 생명이 됩니다”(22절). 우리가 악에서 돌아서서 주님과 같이 걸을 때, 그분의
의의 빛이 우리의 길을 밝혀 우리가 넘어지지 않고 날마다 앞으로 나아가게
이끌어줍니다(12,18절).
