Son Followers 하나님의 아들을 따르는 자들 [ Luke 8:11 - 8:15 ] - hymn 590 The seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. Luke 8:15 Sunflowers sprout in a carefree manner all over the world. Pollinated by bees, the plants spring up on the sides of highways, under bird feeders, and across fields, meadows, and prairies. To produce a harvest, however, sunflowers need good soil. Well­drained, slightly acidic, nutrient­rich soil “with organic matter or composted,” says the Farmer’s Almanac, finally produces tasty sunflower seeds, pure oil, and also a liveli­ hood for hard­working sunflower growers. We also need “good soil” for spiritual growth(LUKE 8:15).As Jesus taught in His par­ able of the farmer scattering seed, God’s Word can sprout even in rocky or thorny soil (SEE VV . 6–7). It only thrives, however, in the soil of “honest, good­hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest” (V . 15 NLT). Young sunflowers are just as patient in their growth. Following the sun’s move­ ment throughout the day, they turn sun­ ward daily in a process called heliotropism. Mature sunflowers are just as deliberate. They turn eastward permanently, warming the face of the flower and increasing visits from pollinator bees. This in turn produces a greater harvest. As with those who care for sunflowers, we can provide a rich medium for God’s Word to grow by clinging to His Word and following after His Son—developing honesty and a good heart for God’s Word to mature us. It’s a daily process. May we follow the Son and grow. PATRICIA RAYBON [ 누가복음 8:11 - 8:15 ] - 찬송가 590 장 좋은 땅에 있다는 것은 착하고 좋은 마음으로 말씀을 듣고 지키어 인 내로 결실하는 자니라 누가복음 8:15 해바라기는 전 세계 곳곳에서 아무렇게나 잘 자랍니다. 이 식물은 벌들이 가루받이를 해주면 고속도로변이나 새 모이통 밑에, 그리고 들판, 목초지, 초원 어디서든지 잘 자라납니다. 하지만 해바라기 씨와 기름을 수확하려면 해바라기에 좋은 토양이 필요합니다. ‘농부 연감’에 따르면 배수가 잘 되고 약간 산성이어야 하며, “유기물이나 퇴비가 섞인” 영양이 풍부한 토양에서 결국 맛있는 씨와 순도 높은 기름이 생산되고, 나아가 열심히 재배한 농부의 생계를 보장해준다고 합니다. 우리도 영적 성장을 위해서는 “좋은 토양”이 필요합니다(누가복음 8:15). 예수님이 씨 뿌리는 농부의 비유를 들어 가르치셨듯이 하나님의 말씀은 돌이 많거나 가시나무가 자라는 땅에서도 싹이 돋아날 수 있습니다(6-7절 참조). 그러나 그 말씀은 “착하고 좋은 마음으로 말씀을 듣고 지키어 인내로 결실하는”(15절) 사람들의 토양에서만 잘 자랄 수 있습니다. 어린 해바라기들은 자랄 때 대단한 인내를 보입니다. 하루 종일 태양의 움직임을 따라가면서, 향일성이라 불리는 과정 속에 매일 태양 쪽을 바라봅니다. 다 자란 해바라기들은 이에 못지않게 다른 과정을 충실하게 따릅니다. 그들은 언제나 동쪽을 향해 있어 꽃의 표면을 따뜻하게 해주고 가루받이를 해주는 벌들이 더 많이 찾아오게 합니다. 이렇게 함으로 더 많은 수확이 가능하게 해줍니다. 해바라기를 돌보는 사람들처럼 우리도 하나님의 말씀이 자라가도록 풍부한 영양분을 공급해줄 수 있습니다. 하나님의 말씀을 붙잡고 예수님을 따라가면서 우리가 하나님의 말씀으로 성숙할 수 있도록 정직성과 선한 마음을 키워 나가는 것입니다. 이것은 매일 매일의 과정이어야 합니다. 우리 모두 아들이신 예수님을 따르면서 성장할 수 있기를 소망합니다.

And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15.
