Situational Awareness 상황 파악 [ Philippians 1:3 - 1:11 ] - hymn 292 my prayer: that your love may abound more and knowledge and depth of insight. Philippians 1:9 My family, all five of us, found ourselves in Rome over the Christmas holidays. I don’t know when I’ve ever seen more people jammed together in one place. As we snaked our way through crowds to see sights like the Vatican and the Coliseum, I repeatedly emphasized to my kids the practice of “situational aware-ness”—pay attention to where you are, who’s around you, and what’s going on. We live in a day when the world, at home and abroad, isn’t a safe place. And with the use of cell phones and ear buds, kids (and adults for that matter) don’t always practice an awareness of surroundings. Situational awareness. This is an aspect of Paul’s prayer for the believers in Philippi recorded in Philippians 1:9–11. His desire for them was an ever-increasing discernment as to the who/what/where of their situations. But rather than some goal of personal safety, Paul prayed with a grander purpose that God’s holy people might be good stewards of the love of Christ they’d received, discern “what is best,” live “pure and blameless,” and be filled with good qualities that only Jesus can produce. This kind of liv- ing springs from an awareness that God is the who in our lives, and our increasing reliance on Him is what brings Him pleasure. And in any and all situations is where we can share from the overflow of His great love. JOHN BLASE [ 빌립보서 1:3 - 1:11 ] - 찬송가 292 장 내가 기도하노라 너희 사랑을 지식과 모든 총명으로 점점 더 풍성하게 하사 빌립보서 1:9 크리스마스 휴가 기간에 우리 가족 다섯은 모두 로마에 머물렀습니다. 나는 그렇게 많은 사람들이 한 곳에 숨이 막히게 모여 있는 것을 본 적이 없습니다. 많은 인파를 뚫고 바티칸이나 콜로세움 같은 명소를 거쳐 가면서 나는 아이들에게 “상황 파악”을 잘 하여 지금 어디에 있고 옆에 누가 있으며 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 주의 깊게 살필 것을 반복해서 강조했습니다. 우리는 국내외를 막론하고 안전하지 않은 세상 속에 살고 있습니다. 또한 휴대폰이나 이어폰을 쓰게 되면서 아이들은(어른 또한) 주변 상황을 잘 파악하지 못하곤 합니다. ‘상황 파악.’ 이것은 바울이 빌립보서 1:9-11에 기록한 빌립보 성도들을 위한 기도이기도 합니다. 바울은 그들이 누가/ 무엇을/어디에 라는 것에 근거하여 자신들의 상황을 분별하기를 바랐습니다. 하지만 바울은 개인의 안위를 위하는 것보다는, 하나님의 거룩한 백성들이 그리스도의 사랑을 받은 선한 청지기가 되고, “지극히 선한 것”을 분별하며, “진실하여 허물없이” 살고, 예수님만으로 말미암는 의의 열매로 가득 채워지는 더 큰 목적을 가지고 기도했습니다. 이와 같은 삶은 하나님이 우리 삶 속에서 어떤 분이신지를(누가) 깨닫고 점점 더 그분을 의지하는 것이(무엇) 그분을 기쁘시게 한다는 것을 깨닫는 데서 비롯됩니다. 그러면 우리는 모든 상황에서(어디) 그분의 넘쳐흐르는 위대한 사랑을 나눌 수 있습니다.

How can you bring Christ’s love into your circumstances in a greater way? Father, wake us up so that Your love might abound more and more. 3. I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, 4. Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, 5. For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; 6. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: 7. Even as it is meet for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all are partakers of my grace. 8. For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ. 9. And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10. That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11.
