The Greatest Gift 가장 위대한 선물 [ John 1:43 - 1:51 ] - hymn 305 We have found...Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. John 1:45 Over the years, my friend Barbara has given me countless encouraging cards and thoughtful presents. After I told her I’d received Jesus as my Savior, she handed me the greatest gift she’d ever given me—my first Bible. She said, “You can grow closer to God and mature spiritually by meeting with Him daily,reading Scripture, praying, and trusting and obeying Him.” My life changed when Barbara invited me to get to know God better. Barbara reminds me of the apostle Philip. After Jesus invited Philip to follow Him (JOHN 1:43), the apostle immediately told his friend Nathanael that Jesus was “the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote” (V . 45). When Nathanael doubted, Philip didn’t argue, criticize, or give up on his friend. He simply invited him to meet Jesus face to face. “Come and see,” he said (V . 46). I can imagine Philip’s joy when he heard Nathanael declare Jesus as “the Son of God” and “the king of Israel” (V . 49). What a blessing to know his friend wouldn’t miss out on seeing the “greater things” Jesus promised they’d witness (VV . 50–51). The Holy Spirit initiates our intimate relationship with God and then lives in all who respond in faith. He enables us to know Him personally and to invite others to encounter Him daily through His Spirit and the Scriptures. An invitation to know Jesus better is a great gift to receive and give. XOCHITL DIXON [ 요한복음 1:43 - 1:51 ] - 찬송가 305 장 우리가 만났으니 요셉의 아들 나사렛 예수니라 요한복음 1:45 오랫동안 내게 셀 수 없이 많은 격려 카드와 사려 깊은 선물들을 주어왔던 친구 바바라는 내가 예수님을 나의 구주로 받아들였다고 말했을 때, 지금까지 준 선물 중 가장 큰 선물을 내게 주었습니다. 바로 나의 첫 성경책입니다. 그녀는 말했습니다. “네가 하나님과 매일 만나고, 성경을 읽고, 기도하며, 그분을 신뢰하고 순종하면 하나님께 더 가까이 다가가고 영적으로 성장해갈 거야.” 바바라가 하나님을 더 잘 알 수 있게 이끌어주면서 나의 삶은 바뀌었습니다. 바바라를 생각하면 빌립 사도가 떠오릅니다. 예수님이 빌립에게 주님을 따르라고 청하자(요 1:43), 그는 즉시 친구 나다나엘에게 예수님이야말로 “모세가 율법책에 기록하였고, 또 예언자들이 기록한 그분”(45절, 새번역)이라고 말했습니다. 나다나엘이 의심하는데도 빌립은 친구와 논쟁하거나 비판하지 않고 친구를 포기하지도 않았습니다. 빌립은 친구가 예수님을 직접 만나보기를 권했을 뿐입니다. “와서 보라”(46절)고 한 것이 전부였습니다. 나는 나다나엘이 예수님을 “하나님의 아들”이요 “이스라엘의 임금”(49절)이라고 고백했을 때 빌립이 얼마나 기뻐했을지 상상할 수 있습니다. 예수님이 앞으로 보게 될 것이라고 약속하신 “더 큰 일들”을 그의 친구도 보게 되리라는 것을 알게 되니 얼마나 큰 축복인지요(50-51절). 성령님은 우리와 하나님과의 친밀한 관계를 주도하시며, 믿음으로 응답하는 모든 사람 안에 거하십니다. 하나님은 우리가 그분을 개인적으로 알 수 있게 해주실 뿐만 아니라, 우리가 다른 사람들을 청하여 성령과 말씀을 통해 매일 하나님을 만날 수 있도록 해 주십니다. 그래서 예수님을 더 잘 알게 하려는 초대야말로 우리가 주고받을 수 있는 가장 큰 선물입니다.

To whom will you extend an invitation to know Jesus better? How has He worked through others to grow your faith? Knowing Jesus is the greatest gift we can receive; sharing Him is the greatest gift we can give. 43. The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44. Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45. Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46. And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. 47. Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 48. Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 49. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. 50. Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. 51.
