성경의 권위로 돌아오라---로이드존스 목사

We praise Thee for the radiance, That from the hallowed page, A lantern to our footsteps, Shines on from age to age

 

The authority of the Scriptures is not a matter to be defended, so much as to be asserted ... I am reminded of what the great Charles Haddon Spurgeon once said in this connexion:

 

'There is no need for you to defend a lion when he is being attacked.

All you need to do is to open the gate and let him out' ... it is the preaching and exposition of the Bible that really establish its truth and authority.

 I believe that this is more true today, perhaps ... than it has been for the last two centuries ...

There is nothing that really explains the whole world situation, as it is today, except the Bible.

 

Take even the question of the origin of the world, and the very nature and character of the world itself. We know that there have been certain scientists in this present century who ... have been forced to come to the conclusion that there must be a great Mind, a great Architect behind the universe ...

The Bible has always asserted this, but at long last some of these men are coming to admit it.

But when you come to consider the state and condition of the world this particular point is still more evident.

When you look at the average individual man as he is today, in spite of all the advance of learning and culture and knowledge ... what, are you to say? When you are confronted by the fact of two major world wars in this present century ... the only adequate explanation is that which is given in the Bible: the biblical doctrine of sin.

Nothing else really gives an adequate explanation ... It is only in the light of this teaching that you can understand the whole process of history.

Now it is of great interest and real significance to observe that the critics themselves are now beginning to say this. They used to deny it ... They hated the whole notion of sin.

Man was developing and improving. He was getting better and better. But now they have been forced to admit the truth of the biblical teaching and they are coming back to it.

성경의 권위로 돌아오라

성경의 권위는 변호하고 지켜야 할 것이라기 보다는 주장해야 할 사실입니다.

위대한 인물이었던 스펄젼이 한 번은 이 문제와 관련하여 다음과 같이 말한 것을 기억합니다.

 

 “사자가 공격을 당할 때, 당신은 사자를 지켜야 할 필요가 없습니다.

당신이 해야 할이란 사자를 놓아주기만 하면 됩니다.”

참으로 성경의 진리와 권위를 세우는 것은 성경을 해석하고 설교하는 것입니다.  

나는 이 말이 지난 2세기간 보다 더욱 더 참되다고 믿습니다.

오늘날의 상황을 있는 그대로 설명하는 것은 성경 이외에는 없습니다.

세계 기원에 관한 문제나 이 세계 자체의 본질과 성격에 관한 문제를 한 예로 들어봅시다.

이 우주의 배후에는 어떤 위대한 이지적 존재나 위대한 건축가가 반드시 있다는 결론에 도달할 수 밖에

없었던 과학자들이 금세기에도 있다는 것을 우리는 알고 있습니다.

성경은 언제나 이 사실을 확언해 왔으나, 이제 겨우 몇 사람들만이 그 사실을 인정하려는 것입니다.

그러나 이 세계의 사정이나 상태를 생각하게 될 때 이 점은 더욱 명백해 집니다.

학문과 문화와 지식의 이 모든 진보에도 불구하고 오늘 날 평범한 한 개인을 보게 될 때,

여러분은 무어라고 말하겠습니까?

금세기에 두 차례의 세계대전이 있었다는 사실에 직면할 때, 나는 성경이 주는 설명,

즉 죄에 대한 성경의 교훈만이 유일하게 타당한 설명이라고 확언합니다.

이 외에 어떠한 설명도 타당한 설명을 제공하지 못합니다.

이 교훈의 빛에 비춰서만 역사의 전과정을 이해할 수 있는 것입니다.

그런데 이제 비평주의자들 스스로가 이와 같은 말을 하기 시작하고 있다는 것을 관찰하는 것은

매우 흥미로울 뿐 아니라 참으로 중요합니다. 예전에 비평주의자들은 이 사실을 부정하였습니다.

그들은 죄란 개념을 매우 싫어하였습니다. 인간은 발전하고 향상하고 있다고 믿었습니다.

인간은 점차 개선되어가고 있다고 말했습니다.

그러나 이제 그들은 성경의 교훈의 진리를 인정할 수 밖에 없게 되었으며,

성경의 진리로 되돌아 오고 있는 것입니다.
